Rilakkuma Bear

Who does not know this famous Japanese bear called Rilakkuma? If you visit Japan, you are bound to come across this cute brown bear. Japan has a lot of Rilakkuma merchandise from the tiniest products to the largest bear. Here is my very first Rilakkuma bear bento!   My Rilakkuma bear is made of inari. This is super easy to make. Just stuffed the inari with sushi rice and cut 3 little circles out of norisheet to create the eyes and the nose. Then, cut 2 strips for the nose, too. The ears and the base for the nose are from cut-out cheese. On this plate, there are broccoli, edamame and strawberry to accompany Rilakkuma. 😉

Rilakkuma bento ready for lunch tomorrow. In the box, there are oven-baked chicken wings, broccoli, chikuwa, edamame, peas and carrots. This is perfect if you have a busy day and if you do not have access to microwave to re-heat the food.

Here’s another version of my Rilakkuma bento box. This is a two-tier lunch box so I can put in more sidedishes in this box. The sideshes are brocolli, chikuwa, oven-baked chicken wings, edamame, strawberries and blueberries.

Kiddie-O Bento

Here’s another of my Inari sushi Kidz -O- Bento creation. Somehow, I am excited to use Inari as one of my ingredients for my bento. Not only it is easy, I can experiment with various toppings too ;-). On my previous post, I used quail eggs as the head; this time, I tried to use halved fish ball as the head. It actually turned out great!

For one of the toppings, I tried using canned Unagi which I bought it from a local Asian grocery store. I have never tried canned Unagi before, so I thought, I might give it a try this time. The texture is actually not too bad, however, it’s a little bit too sweet for me. The other topping was “Hot and Spicy” Spam, which I bought a while ago in our local supermarket. Since I don’t normally buy Spam, I never thought that that flavour existed. To my surprise, it tasted yummy! The sidedishes on the plate include lettuces, carrots, tamagoyaki and Grape Perino tomatoes.

I tried putting them in two different boxes to see how they turned out. Let’s vote…Do you prefer Bento box 1 or Bento box 2?

Box 1

In box 1, I put in 2 Inari sushi guys and lettuces, tamagoyaki, Grape Perino tomato and german potatoes as sidedishes.

Box 2

In box 2, I put in 2 Inari sushi guys and lettuces, tamagoyaki, Grape Perino tomato, german potatoes and mixed vegetables as sidedishes.

Here’s the recipe for German Potatoes from “Kawaii Bento Boxes” book.

Ingredients:

1 small potato

1 strip bacon, cut up

1/2 tsp butter

Dash salt

Method:

1. Peel and slice potato into thin quarter rounds. Cover and microwave 2-3 mins or just until tender.

2. Heat butter in a frying pan. When butter melts, stir-fry potato slices, and then add bacon slices

3. Season with salt. (If moist finish is preferred, pour in some milk to finish)

I have just recently watched “Lego Movie” and bought some figurines. I couldn’t resist not taking photos of my Kidz -O- Bento creation with my lego figurines. “Everything is Awesome! Everything is Cool!” 😉

The only thing you need to be special is TO BELIEVE you can be.

A. Street “Day Care”

“What’s the day care menu today?” … and conversations started between housemates on Monday afternoon.

I have to say Thank You Very Much to my all-time loyal supporters at home who are kind enough to enjoy my creations every Monday. After a hard day’s work, they are so excited and eager to come home to a nice surprise of the day. I am so delighted to have them enjoy my Kidz -O- Bento creation. 😉

It was my first time making octopus sausages and it turned out well. They were all so cute! image

To go with the octopus, I made sushi version of three of us which were made out of inari sushi. The whole plate represented the cheeky us who enjoy our meal time together at least once every week. image

The little guys were made out of rice, quail eggs, tamagoyaki, crabmeat, macaroni, and cut-out nori. I added lettuce as the base; cherry tomatoes and edamame as sides; also cut out cheese as the decoration. Bon Appetit!
